Local keynote speaker:

Abraham Korol, Local keynote speaker

Prof. Korol is a leader in evolutionary and population genomics with significant contributions to genomic mapping, evolution of recombination, evolution of sex, evolutionary genomics of wheat, barely, fruit flies, and more. Prof. Korol's studies revealed the evolutionary dynamics of recombination rates, advanced methodologies for genomic mapping and mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL), and also contributed to applied research on adaptation to stress and disease resistance in insects and plants, including the forefront of wheat and barely functional and evolutionary genomics. Thus, his studies flow from the theoretical and methodological innovations to biological insights that push forward cutting edge technologies in the development of wheat and other crops.
Prof. Korol served as the head of the Institue of Evolution at the University of Haifa. His lab plays a key role in the International Wheat Genome Sequencing Consortium, and multiple other collaborative projects.
